5 Korean Beauty Tips From Your Favourite K-Drama and K-Pop Celebrities

Always wondered how your favourite K-Drama and K-Pop celebrities achieve that coveted luscious glowing skin? When it comes to beauty and skincare tips, nobody can walk the talk quite like these Korean celebrities. Some K-pop celebrities often share incredibly unexpected secrets to their glowy skin, albeit a bit ridiculous at times. Recently, a Korean beauty trend for good skin was spreading like wildfire - slapping yourself.

If you’ve ever wondered what it is like to have that same glow as your favourite Korean celebrities or need a little pick-me-up from your them to get that skin regime going? Let us share with you 5 Korean beauty tips from your favourite K-Drama and K-Pop celebrities. PS: We swear that we will not share weird tips such as “drink water”.

1. 4-2-4 Cleansing Routine

Bae Suzy's singing and dancing abilities, as well as her acting prowess, have been delighting her avid fans. However, the star of While You Were Sleeping is also known for her attractiveness and perfect skin. The secret to the actress’ flawless skin lies in an extensive cleansing regime known as the 4-2-4 cleansing routine, which is a four-part skincare ritual.

This extensive ritual takes more than 10 minutes to complete. The While You Were Sleeping star starts off her beauty routine by cleansing her face with an oil-based cleanser for four minutes. During this process, she will gently massage her face to help remove impurities and makeup, and also helps to tone the facial muscles for a more youthful appearance.

After the massage, Bae Suzy washes off her face with a foaming cleanser. The actress then ends off the routine with a four minute water rinse: two minutes lukewarm water and two minutes rinse with cold water. Rinsing with warm water helps to stimulate blood circulation and cold water as a finishing touch to close and tighten the pores.

2. Wash face with milk

Are you envious of Descendants of the Sun’s Song Joong-Ki’s baby face? The actor gets his enviably smooth and bright complexion by washing his face with milk every night. While it may seem unusual, consider the last time you took a milk bath at a spa — didn't your skin feel silky smooth afterwards?

For the curious fans out there that want to give it a try, we recommend soaking a cotton pad in the milk and gently wiping your face with it rather than pouring it on your face, which would be a messy event. But if you insist on dunking your entire face in a bowl of milk like a cat… well, there’s a famous song by Bon Jovi - It’s My Life.

3. Healthy Diet

Many celebrities swear by their healthy diets are to be thanked for their gorgeous skin. Including antioxidant-rich fruit and vegetables, healthy fats from oily fish and nuts are essential for a varied and well-balanced diet. This should give optimal levels of the nutrients that are crucial for radiant skin, including vitamins C and beta carotene.

Here are some tips from your favourite Korean celebrities:

  • Bae Suzy incorporates a lot of kimchi in her diet to stimulate the production of beneficial stomach bacteria for a healthy digestive tract which prevents acne.
  • B1A4’s Baro avoids oily and deep-fried food tend to be known to cause acne breakouts
  • Sandara Park from 2NE1 loves to indulge in her favourite bubbly drink - Champagne. When consumed in moderation, the antioxidants help to protect skin’s vital collagen and elastin from environmental free radicals and oxidative stress.

While they may not have the same recipe to glowy skin, the idea is clear - Good skin starts with a good diet.

4. Wear Sunscreen

In this day and age, men shouldn’t be afraid to take care of their skin. Nam Joo-hyuk, a model-turned-actor, swears by the application of SPF. Weightlifting Fairy Kim Bok-joo star who is famed for his boyish good looks, revealed his skincare trick in an interview with Korean fashion magazine High Cut. Nam Joo-hyuk said, “I started wearing sunscreen. I never forget to put it on, especially when filming outdoors.”

Sun protection has been shown to slow down the aging process. Regularly applying SPF protects your skin from dangerous UV rays outside, which can cause wrinkles, sunburn, liver spots, and, in the worst-case scenario, skin cancer.

5. Simplify your beauty routine with a Skincare Diet

Do you think the typical 10 step Korean skin care routine is overkill and would prefer something simpler? Then you'll enjoy what Son Ye-jin has to say about her daily skincare routine. She adheres to a simple, fuss-free regimen known as the "skincare diet." This reduces a complex 10-step routine to just the essentials, such as a cleanser, moisturizer, and sunscreen.

Keeping it simple has worked wonders for Son Ye-jin, as evidenced by her flawless glow on Instagram.
